Real Mexican Restaurant in Bali

Poco Loco has been a leading Mexican restaurant in the heart of Kuta for the past 18 years, and has not let up yet in being a leader of value for money partnered with good homemade, wholesome food. Today it is still as popular as ever, with both the bar menu and food menu enticing its guests to eat and drink more than they had dared. The way to get straight into the Poco Loco mood is one of their legendary Margaritas, the start of a true Mexican holiday-feel-meal wouldn’t be complete without one (or two – who’s counting?).

Go for a frozen or on the rocks to avoid the ice headache (not to mention a tequila headache the next day) in an array of fruity flavours from Rp. 55,000 – Rp. 387,000, for a jug. This is paired particularly well with the absolutely delicious Shrimp and Cheese Dip, accompanied with homemade tortilla chips, or the lip smacking Spicy Salsa. For those of the more hearty appetites the Potato Skins will do the job, as will the tasting starters menu, Fiesta Platter, which combines all the favourites of Spicy Salsa, Shrimp and Cheese Dip, Chicken & Beef Taquito Bites, Quesadillas on an enormous oval dish with loads of tortillas. All the starters range in price from Rp. 26,500 – Rp. 72,500 (with all prices being inclusive of tax).

After a few drinks and snacks, with conversation flowing and the restaurant filling up and moving tables onto the second and third floors, it’s on to the mains, where the menu splits into Mexican Mains, Tex Mex or Seafood and Salads – an impressive choice. The most popular are pulled form the Mexican Mains where most of the guests regal themselves on more hearty fare of Enchiladas, Fajitas, Tacos, Burritos and the amusingly named Chimichangas.

Again for those who cannot make up their minds the Combo Loco will fulfill a Mexican need of Chicken Enchiladas, Refried Beans, Chimichangas and Mexican Rice – but be warned, this by now can only be attempted by the truly hungry. Some of these can also be served in vegetarian choices as well. Over to the Tex Mex side, the 250gr Cowboy Steak is incredible value at Rp. 75,000 served with fries and a salad, as are the Chicken Rotisserie and Chili Beef. The Seafood and Salads menus will satisfy the lighter orderers, and all mains range between Rp. 22,500 – Rp. 82,500, really excellent value.

Event though the combination of drinks and food was more than enough, it is hard to pass over the delectable sounding dessert menu. These items have remained staunch items for the past 15 years that I have been going to Poco Loco and a special treat well worth the extra time at the gym. The Very Muddy Mud Pie, Chocolate Brownie Sundae, Death by Chocolate Cake, Banana Pudding, Mexican Ice Cream scrumptiously made from imported Mexican chocolate & Kahlua, as well as Cheesecake, with a selection of toppings, is sure to put a smile on any good dessert lovers lips. All at the reasonable price of Rp. 33,000.

After a coffee, and more chat, the friendly wandering tequila shooters bar staff made a stop at our table, but that is a different story all together…… as they say No Hey Reglas Fijas – No Fixed Rules!
